Jewelry
Artist’s
Statement from Silversmith Timothy Murphy
I
have an innate love for jewelry making. It is an extraordinarily
personal and unique craft, wherein each and every piece
has an owner, yet to be found. When making jewelry, it often
feels as if I am creating it with someone in mind. Indeed,
I put colors together for their aesthetic appearance, but
also in accordance with the stones individual properties.
Each durable and lightweight piece is created from 20 and
18 gauge silver, to allow for strength, durability, and
the fluidity of lines. Also, the metal used is pre-hardened
through heat treatment to allow for additional durability
of design. |

I believe in using only A grade gemstones and high grade swarovski
and Japanese crystal to create quality jewelry. The solid foundation
to any piece of quality, wearable, hand crafted art is to begin
by using quality materials. I pride myself on making as much
of the piece as possible, the only exceptions are the chains
and clasps. The key reason for this is they have the strength
and durability that I feel the craftsmanship of my pieces deserves.
I make every jump ring and French hook incorporated into my
pieces. When I say I literally make all the pieces, I literally
make every part, because it is a matter of pride as a silversmith.
I enjoy making custom work, combining stones and styles that
are as unique as the customers that request them.
